Inheritance

Artist Conversation · Soho House Paris · Paris, France · 2025

Presented in Paris on the occasion of William Saah’s first solo exhibition in the city, Inheritance brought together artist William Saah, filmmaker Djiby Kebe, and sound artist Myriam Konté for a conversation on legacy, heritage, and the ways generational memory shapes contemporary creative practice. Moderated by Aby Gaye, curator at Fondation Cartier, the conversation began with a question posed by Saah: What do we inherit from the generations that came before us? From our desires and ambitions to the way we dress, speak, and identify with one another, Inheritance considered how cultural and familial memory continues to live through a new generation of artists. The evening opened with a screening of Djiby Kebe’s L’Avance (2024), which was nominated for a César Award that year, before expanding into a conversation between the three artists on their respective practices, the complexities of heritage and identity, and the role institutions and brands play in shaping contemporary culture. As photos were not allowed in Soho Paris House, Bureau.Art worked with Paris photographer Anissa Hid to produce this special portrait series of our speakers and guests.
